Case Study: San Jose State University x Booths by Christy

A Selfie Museum Experience That Took Student Engagement to the Next Level

When San Jose State University approached us to help create an unforgettable experience for their students, we knew we had to deliver something beyond a traditional photo booth setup. They wanted to host a Selfie Museum—a pop-up event designed to encourage creativity, connection, and most importantly, fun.

Held inside the Student Union Ballroom, the event brought together over 150 students for an immersive evening of interactive photo moments, custom content creation, and share-worthy memories.

The Challenge:

SJSU needed an activation that would engage a diverse student body, offer variety, and hold attention throughout the event. Our solution? Bring not one, but seven of our most popular photo experiences together under one roof.

The Solution:

We curated a multi-booth, museum-style walkthrough featuring:

1. Paparazzi Booth

Complete with flashing lights and red carpet vibes, students were greeted like A-list celebrities the moment they walked in.

2. Spotlight Booth

Studio-quality glam with a sleek, editorial feel. Think magazine covers, bold poses, and high-fashion flair.

3. Box-You Booth

A playful, oversized "box" look where students could jump, pose, and create their own larger-than-life self unboxing moment.

4. AI Booth

Our crowd favorite! Students selected from futuristic filters and generative AI effects that transformed their portraits into digital masterpieces.

5. Standard Digital Booth

For those who wanted something simple, classic, and easy to share instantly.

6. Music Gram

A photo and video booth where students could be on the cover of their favorite music app album

7. 360 Booth with Special FX

A high-energy, rotating camera experience with AI video fx effects to really bring the party to life.

The Results

The ballroom was buzzing from start to finish. Each activation offered something unique, and students moved freely between stations to capture different styles of content.

The variety of booths meant there was truly something for everyone—whether they wanted a low-key selfie or a full production moment. With over 150 students in attendance, the Selfie Museum quickly became the must-visit event on campus that week.

Why It Worked

At Booths by Christy, we believe the best photo experiences go beyond the backdrop. It's about creating an environment where people feel excited to participate, to express themselves, and to make something memorable.

San Jose State University trusted us to bring that vision to life—and together, we did exactly that.
